(Insert Julia Gillard tone): In light of the Federal Budget, for my third blog I would like to shift gears to (P) politics. Like the great decision to boost Aussie funding for mental health, the iMiEV has boosted enviro-mental health (and it has also put my petrol budget back in surplus).
So I would like to introduce the political Mitsubishi i-MiEV:
• It is both electrically and politically charged.
• It is economical to run and topical in the running of the economy.
• It's running on electrons, a running argument in recently elections.
Maybe the car should be called Polly?
Needless to say, the i-MieV has a lot more to it than just a battery. This electric-socket-rocket represents a driving force in the political environment.
(Continue politically persuasive tone): So it is my promise to you, that if you elect to read my blog today I will dance lightly around some political emissions that the car releases into our atmosphere.
Phew! Political rhetoric is exhausting.
Yet, it is unavoidable when it comes to electric vehicles. This renewed concept has taken the prime position in current debates; parked right between global warming and fuel prices.
The media is bumper to bumper with arguments concerning electric 'fuel' vs. fossil fuel. Do we refuse to give up gas, ditch diesel and leave petrol to fossilize along with dinosaur skeletons and analogue televisions?
Do we render fuel redundant rather than drill our Libyan neighbors for more?
Are electric cars a fad that has returned as flippantly as faux fur?
This blogger doesn't think so.
It could be that these new innovative vehicles are a bolt of en-lightening in our political environment. However, only time and reviews (like this one) will truly reveal the environmental, political and economic response from the Australian public.
It is up to Australians to voice their opinions on what they think. I have tried to harness this notion from the word go, as an independent thinking woman (that you can still catch at home in a pile of irony).
I have certainly used this strength to break down some boundaries in my own front yard, in order to ensure that this vehicle for environmentalism remains a driving force on Victorian roads.
Seriously, on Wednesday morning, I literally kicked down my jammed fence in an effort to get to work on time.
Talk about progress.
Sincerely,
Senator Jess Brown... I mean O'Brien.
